“You’re furious,” I said eventually, after miles of suffocating silence in the car. My nerves had begun to settle, lulled by the swelling violins and piano notes drifting from the speakers. But the air between us hung thick, electric with his unspoken rage.
He didn’t reply, just gripped the wheel tighter, his knuckles whitening. The Landmark Pinnacle tower loomed ahead, its glass facade glinting coldly.
“Bear...” I murmured the nickname softly, a playful endearment from happier days. “It doesn’t have to be like this between us. We could... talk about it.”
